2nd Officer

Job Responsibilities

  • The 2nd Mate supports the 1st Mate in all navigation tasks and takes on the role of Safety Officer. Teams sail in a safe, maritime, correct/responsible and environmentally friendly manner.
  • The focus is on optimizing the production and continuity of the ship. Together with the Chief Officer you are in charge of all operations on board, a great responsibility!
  • Of course we must not forget about safety. Onboard environmental regulations and the maintenance of safety equipment (ISM & ISPS) are very important to Van Oord and you will ensure that our high safety standards are met.
  • On a daily basis you consult with and advise the Captain and 1st Mate on methods to optimize the production process. In addition, you are involved in training and coaching 3rd Mate and trainees on board, so that you can transfer your knowledge in a motivating way.
  • The ship's administration must be kept according to Van Oord standards, which is also part of your daily tasks.
Skills

Do you have completed training as a Maritime Officer at MBO or HBO level and/or do you have solid practical experience as an officer of the watch on board? Don't hesitate to apply!

 

Further requirements regarding STCW courses apply and in addition to legal obligations, the 2nd Mate will be required to complete all recommended Van Oord training. Working internationally is no problem for you, as our activities take place worldwide. This also enables you to communicate on an accurate professional level in the English language.
