Assistant Technical Manager

Job Responsibilities

Drydocking Management: Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of drydocking activities for our fleet of vessels. Ensure that drydocking projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Drydocking Execution: Assume the role of Dry-docking Superintendent and execute the dry docking of assigned vessels in the selected shipyard as per company procedures.

Research and Development:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and execute research and development projects.
  • Lead efforts to pilot and evaluate new technologies and practices.

 

Vendor Selection and Management: Participate in identifying and selecting drydocking facilities, contractors, and suppliers. Manage relationships and ensure that all work is performed to contractual agreements.

Scheduled Maintenance:

  • Plan and oversee scheduled maintenance activities, including routine inspections, servicing, and equipment upgrades.
  • Ensure compliance with maintenance schedules and adherence to quality standards.

 

Emergency Repairs:

  • Develop and implement contingency plans for emergency repairs and breakdown situations.
  • Coordinate rapid response efforts to minimize downtime and disruptions.

 

Project Planning:

  • Develop detailed drydocking project plans, including scope, budget, timeline, and resource allocation. Monitor progress and make adjustments as necessary to meet project goals.
  • Manage innovation projects from conception to implementation, ensuring timelines and budgets are met.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to drive project success.

 

Innovation Integration: Research and evaluate emerging technologies, best practices, and innovations in the maritime industry. Propose and implement innovative solutions to improve vessel performance and technical performance.

Budget Control:

  • Manage the drydocking budget, including cost tracking, forecasting, and cost control measures. Ensure that all drydocking activities are executed within budgetary constraints.
  • Develop and manage budgets for innovation projects, optimizing resource allocation.
  • Monitor and control costs to ensure projects remain within budgetary constraints.

 

Quality Assurance: Implement quality assurance and quality control processes to ensure that drydocking work complies with industry standards and company specifications. Conduct inspections and audits as needed.

Safety Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and standards during all operations. Promote a culture of safety and ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with safety regulations and guidelines.

Reporting and Documentation: Maintain detailed records of drydocking activities, including progress reports, budgets, and technical documentation. Provide regular updates to senior management.

Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including the Operations, Engineering, and Procurement teams, to ensure seamless alignment of drydocking activities with company objectives and standards.

Data Analysis and Evaluation:

  • Analyze data and performance metrics to assess the impact of innovation initiatives.
  • Identify areas for improvement and make data-driven recommendations.

 

Deliverables:

Successful Drydocking Projects: Ensure that all drydocking projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.

Innovative Solutions: Identify and implement innovative practices and technologies that improve vessel performance and quality of technical ship management.

Cost Control: Manage budgets effectively, controlling costs and optimizing resource allocation.

Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies during operations.

Ad hoc: Carry out ad hoc projects as assigned by the manager.

 

Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience (typically 3+ years) in marine drydocking and project management, preferably in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of drydocking procedures, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and control costs effectively.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Innovative mindset and a passion for driving improvements in maritime operations.
  • Ability to work on weekends when executing dry docks.
  • Physically able to climb up and down vessels and straight ladders.
