Job Purpose
Provide a broad range of specialised marine operational expertise to ensure chartered LNG Carriers are fully compatible with, and able to safely operate at, their nominated terminals. Assess all FOB nominated vessels for compatibility with, and safe operation at, Qatargas' Ras Laffan berths. Protect the reputational and commercial interests of the Company, and coordinate with Ship Owners and Operators on vessel compatibility/acceptability related matters.

The size of Q-max/Flex Ships and the new technologies adopted in modern LNG Carriers complicates the ship / shore compatibility assessments conducted by Marine Specialists. The ability to foresee and manage potential problems to ALARP is demanding and requires significant technical skill and experienced judgement for timely, safe, cost effective resolution.
The ability to foresee and adapt ship / shore procedures to accommodate customer requirements, changes to International and National regulations and the requirements of industry bodies.
Key Job Accountabilities
Coordinate the Ship Shore Interface and compatibility work with Owners and Operators of chartered Large LNG Carriers, Project and JV Terminals and third party loading and receiving facilities.
Provide Marine operations interface to internal and external parties to ensure new marine facilities are managed and operated in accordance with Qatargas safety requirements.
Conduct the due diligence reviews and inspections of the Project & JV Terminals and third party loading/receiving facilities. Where needed, make recommendations to assure compliance with Qatargas and Industry requirements.
Coordinate with third party terminals and provide technical support through the process of the acceptance of Company large LNG Carriers by local authorities.
Provide specialised marine/technical input in respect of marine expansion related activities to ensure long term LNG Shipping business needs.
Provide expert operational advice of a Marine and Technical nature with the aim to ensure that Company interests are protected and transportation of products is safe, efficient and reliable.
Ensure that Company expectations with respect to safe operational and management standards are met at Terminals. Provides expert operational marine advice in respect of the marine elements of agreements and terminal acceptance.
Provides Marine Operational and Technical support for the development and updating of Shipping related Operational Policies and Procedures, to ensure that they remain valid, current and reflect "Best Practices".
Ensures expedient loading and discharging of Company chartered fleet, and ensure the safe operation of the chartered LNG fleet both in port and while at sea.
Qualifications
1st Class Marine Certificate of Competency or an appropriate Bachelor's degree as Master/Chief Engineer or equivalent.
Knowledge and/or Experience
10 years' marine experience in oil and/or gas transportation.
Technical and Business Skills
Familiar with a wide variety, type and condition of vessels considered for the carriage of Company cargoes to the Customer.
High degree of flexibility and ability to demonstrate conceptual thinking skills.
Understanding and knowledge of SHE and Environmental Standards as they relate to the Oil & Gas Industry and the Marine Environment.
Sound knowledge and understanding of Quality Management Concepts.
Strong working understanding from Charterer/Seller perspective, of Commercial processes and documentation, as they relate to the Marine transportation of LNG and Hydrocarbon Products.
Computer proficiency in the use of databases and spread sheets.
Excellent analytical skills in the Shipping fields.
