Marine Superintendent

Job Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Fleet Groups in the preparation and submission of responses and reports to external inspections, e.g. Flag State, Port State and the uploading and administering of the associated vessel information databases.
  • Responsible for maintaining Nautical Standards on all managed vessels.
  • Administer the various vessel tracking systems in line with Company requirements.
  • Advise Fleet Groups in all aspects of navigational practices, cargo issues, lifting equipment, general deck operations and associated operational safety.
  • Within their area of expertise, identifying, preparing and reviewing documentation amendments/revisions, software programs and new equipment to meet identified needs in the development of the Company’s Management System.
  • Liaising with classification societies and flag state administrations on matters outwith the normal day-to-day operations conducted by superintendents including registration of new tonnage entering management, vessels leaving management, change of Flag and Class etc.
  • Perform the functions required of the Company Security Officer.
  • Assisting with ship and port audits function in accordance with the requirements of the Company’s Management System.
  • Assisting with accident and/or incident investigations, recording the details and preparing any associated report(s)
  • Identifying documentation amendments/revisions to meet identified needs in the development of the Company’s Management System.
Skills
  • Unlimited certificate of competency STCW II/2 (unlimited) or Bachelor degree in Nautical Science or similar or sufficient experience in Marine Operations role within ship management.
  • Experience at sea, Sailing as a senior officer or extensive experience in Marine Superintendent role in a support function or completed structure career development to fulfill Marine Superintendent role.
  • Extensive knowledge in ISM and ISPS as well as operations, technical and safety of vessels.
  • Good financial knowledge of budgets and maintaining costs.
  • Strong understanding of the key concepts of Health and Safety.
  • Knowledge of incident investigation and Root Cause Analysis.
