Conduct ship surveys and provide advice for service delivery within own area of experience, adhering to budget constraints and contractual requirements
Produce the deliverable within the agreed parameters in a defined format to time, budget and to quality
Develop reports, certificates, and documents to an agreed format and within agreed timescales
Discuss and present the deliverable with the internal / external client and be able to suggest solutions where appropriate
Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards
Interpret national and international rules and regulations applicable for marine assets
Understand and apply the basic principles of risk management
Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge, and awareness
Assess or recommend the time and value of the work to be undertaken for an external client, assisting in identifying the most appropriate fee and cost structure
Give guidance to other employees, as appropriate, and disseminate information to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application
Assist in service delivery improvement by communicating internal / external client feedback as appropriate
Contribute to external client management; ensuring service delivery is continually improved through monitoring and acting on client feedback appropriately
Ensure the appropriate authorizations are gained and are kept up to date. This may involve Activity Monitoring
Undertake routine administration as required in line with current processes and procedures
Comply with contracts’ standards signed, maintain the level of an effective and competitive service and ensure that all workload, processes and procedures are effective and efficient and meet business/commercial requirements for both internal and external clients
Provide good control of projects, including communicating with clients, financial control and timely and accurate reporting
Conduct relevant activities as agreed in personal training plan with the aim of increasing knowledge and competency in the execution of survey and other related work
Collaborate with office surveyors, Line management and our key clients as shipyards and manufacturers
Key Health & Safety Responsibilities:
Always assess the risks and work in a safe manner, robustly implementing health and safety rules, instructions and systems and refuse to undertake work that compromises your safety or health
Report in a timely manner all incidents including near miss and safety observations (NMSO), accidents and injuries and raise any health and safety concerns with your line manager
Skills
A degree in Naval Architecture or equivalent from a tertiary organization recognized by Lloyd’s Register from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship’s Engineer officer
Preferably over 3 years of relevant industry experience in a local or multinational organization
Membership of an appropriate professional institution (I. Eng or equivalent)
Ability to work in accordance to professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics
Certified English proficiency and fluency according to the job requirements and familiar with maritime terminology in English
Ability to use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology
Ability to apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate and maintain engineering products, processes, systems and services
Understanding of technical and commercial management principles, e.g. project management, process management
Preferred but not required:
Previous experience in a classification society and exposure to Marine and Offshore field is highly preferred
Experience as Chief Engineer or Shipbuilding Engineer would be considered an advantage
Working towards or achieving charted or incorporated engineering status
