Port Operation Officer

Job Responsibilities

  1. Husbandry Agent Responsibilies
  • Make all arrangements for CMA CGM Group operated vessels to berth and sail on schedule.
  • Board vessels upon arrival at berth (24/7) and during their calls as and when necessary.
  • Handle all documentation associated with vessel calls and provide to authorities as necessary.
  • Keep vessel Masters, ship managers and all other interested parties informed of vessels‘ prospects, and provide regular operational updates.
  • Arrange delivery and collection of ship's spares and supplies.
  • Arrange transport and accommodation for on/off-signing crew.
  • Issue light dues certificates.
  • Identify any opportunities for cost-savings or operational improvements
  • Liaise regularly and develop good working relationships with terminal operators, port authorities and service providers.


 

  1. Port Operations Responsibilities
  • Provide support for offshored functions such as cargo operations, transhipments, laden execs and PCRS
  • Arrange terminal services as required, such as inspections / cargo repacking / fumigation.
  • Terminal storage optimisation, including identifying units which are suitable for onward shipment and idle containers.
  • Check and approve invoices for payment.
  • Assist the Port Operations Manager with the collection of port related data and information.

KPIS/MEASURES/LIMITS OF AUTHORITY FOR ROLE
 

  • Ensure compliance with all KPIs including those for Port Reporting, Loading Confirmations and PCRs.
  • Resolve all invoice queries within 7 days.
  • Prioritise workload to ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Minimise idle time of vessels alongside before and after cargo operations.
  • Ensure vessel calls, from pilot boarding, through berthing, unberthing and pilot disembarking on departure adhere to agreed times, and that all relevant stakeholders comply with CMA CGM requirements.
  • Ensure all cargo operations are completed before vessel departure.
  • Ensure compliance with all UK / international maritime laws and regulations
Skills

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
 

  • Excellent communication standards.
  • Experience in port operations and/or ship’s husbandry is preferred.
  • Experience in container equipment management is preferred .
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work under own direction and as part of a team.
  • High level of attention to detail.


 

PRACTICAL & TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
 

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office applications.
  • Knowledge of CNS/Destin8 port community systems advantagous.
  • Ability to work unsociable hours.
  • Ability to work remotely when required.


 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
 

  • Out of normal office hours coverage will be required, as standard.


 

QUALIFICATIONS
 

  • Educated to GCSE/equivalent in Maths and English (Grade C or above)
  • Valid UK drivers licence required
