Port Operations Officer

Job Responsibilities

  • Make all arrangements for CMA CGM Group operated vessels to berth and sail on schedule.
  • Board vessels on arrival (24/7) and during their calls as and when necessary.
  • Handle all documentation associated with vessel calls and provide to authorities as necessary.
  • Keep vessel Master, ship manager and all interested parties informed of vessel prospects and provide regular operational updates.
  • Arrange delivery and collection of ship's spares and supplies.
  • Arrange transport and accommodation for on/off-signing crew.
  • Assist the Master of the vessel with any other requirements.
  • Issue light dues certificates.
  • Identify any opportunities for cost-savings or operational improvements.
  • Liaise regularly and develop good working relationships with terminal operators, port authorities and service providers.
  • Assist Port Operations Officers in their roles as required, including the monitoring of terminal performance and yard optimisation.
  • Key Performance Indicators
  • Minimise idle time of vessels alongside before and after cargo operations
  • Ensure vessels’ passage from pilot boarding, through berthing, unberthing and pilot disembarking on departure adheres to agreed times and all relevant stakeholders comply
  • Ensure all cargo operations are completed before vessel departure.
  • Ensure compliance with all UK / international maritime laws and regulations.


Additional Information
 


Out of normal office hours coverage will be required, as standard.

Skills
  • Excellent communication skills and fluent in English speaking.
  • High level of numeracy/literacy and attention to detail.
  • Computer literate and fluent in use of MS Office applications.
  • Able to work as part of a team and unsupervised, sometimes under pressure.
  • Well organised and able to prioritise own workload.
  • Good decision making skills.
  • Full driving licence holder.


Practical and Technical Knowledge
Previous ship's husbandry knowledge or experience is an advantage.
Qualifications
Qualified to GCSE level or equivalent (Grade C/equivalent in English and Mathematics)
 


Health and Safety
Responsibility for ensuring that local Health and Safety policies and procedures are followed in order to ensure own safety and the safety of others
