Senior Marine Surveyor

Job Responsibilities

Primary function is to perform routine surveys on classed vessels and other marine structures for classification and compliance with statutory requirements.

Key Duties:

  • Acts as a professional specialist for the organization in the application of related rules, regulations, requirements, concepts, principles and processes.
  • Lead engineering plans and understand shipbuilding practices and vessels operations.
  • Prepares technically accurate and timely reports of inspections and surveys performed.
  • Maintains survey files in an orderly and up-to-date manner in area of responsibility.
  • Maintains active awareness of new working methods and developments affecting the technical scope of assigned responsibilities and makes recommendations for changes in the surveying processes and safety programs as warranted by such developments.
  • Recommends new approaches to problems encountered and makes changes in working methods and procedures where necessary.
  • Plans, schedules and coordinates various phases of surveying work and monitoring the quality of service on work performed.
  • Monitors work and projects performed by subordinate surveyors to ensure maintenance of quality, content, consistency and continuity of work performed, in cooperation with Marine Classification & Statutory Certification team.
  • Provides leadership, guidance and training to lower level and/or less experienced surveyors, in cooperation with Marine Classification & Statutory Certification team.
  • Performs routine surveys on classed ships, platforms or other marine structures and at manufacturers sites for compliance with classification and statutory requirements.
  • Engages in contact with clients to solve problems within area of expertise.
Skills

Professional Experience & Education:

  • Formal qualification in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering.
  • At least 7 years of experience within the marine domain.
  • Preferably qualified as ISM/ISPS Auditor and MLC Inspector.
  • Qualification from a marine or nautical institution and relevant seagoing experience as a certified ship’s officer.
     

Other Skills

  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing; build and sustain strong work relationships with clients.
  • Ability to understand engineering plans and have a good knowledge of shipbuilding practices and ship operations.
  • Develop the skills necessary for the administration of office procedures and monitoring of business performance at an assigned port.
  • Develop a working knowledge of RINA rules, guidelines, statutory regulations and related instructions as well as RINA Employee Safety Policy.
  • Knowledge of ships' engineering systems and machinery.
  • Knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of related technical interfaces required for group project work.
  • Ability to analyze problems and propose solutions.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
