Senior Surveyor Marine & Offshore

Job Responsibilities

  • Surveys of all types of ships during construction and during service life with in Germany North East Area,
  • Surveys of material and equipment intended for marine applications at manufacturers works and laboratories;
  • Understanding and interpreting national and international rules and regulations applicable for marine assets;
  • Understanding the basic principles of risk management;
  • Providing good control of projects, including communicating with clients, financial control and timely and accurate reporting;
  • To conduct relevant activities and provide advice for service delivery within own area of experience, adhering to budget constraints and contractual requirements.
  • To produce the deliverable within the agreed parameters in a defined format to time, budget and to quality.
  • To discuss and present the deliverable with the internal / external client and be able to suggest solutions where appropriate.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
  • To pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness.
  • To assess or recommend the time and value of the work to be undertaken for an external client, assisting in identifying the most appropriate fee and cost structure.
  • To give guidance to other employees, as appropriate, and disseminate information to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.
  • To assist in service delivery improvement by communicating internal / external client feedback as appropriate.
  • Ensure that the appropriate authorizations are gained and are kept up to date.
  • Undertake routine administration as required in line with current processes and procedures.
  • Assess the risks and work in a safe manner at all times, robustly implementing health and safety rules, instructions and systems and refuse to undertake work that compromises your safety or health.
  • Report in a timely manner all incidents including near miss and safety observations (NMSO), accidents and injuries and raise any health and safety concerns with your line manager.
Skills
  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organization recognized by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science or Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution as material, mechanical or marine engineer (B.Eng./B.Sc./M.Eng./M.Sc. or equivalent) and/or relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship’s officer.
  • Knowledge on materials, including, but not limited to steel grades, castings, forgings, etc and welding;
  • To work in accordance with professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics in IMS01.
  • To use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to optimize the application of existing and emerging technology;
  • To be able to apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to the analysis and solution of engineering problems;
  • To provide technical and commercial leadership within the responsibilities assigned;
  • To demonstrate effective interpersonal skills including proficiency in the English language - German language will be an advantage;
