Technical Specialist

Job Role and Responsibilities

As a Technical Assistant Specialist, you will support the In-service activities in our Fleet Services Department. The position is based in Chennai, India but will report into our Fleet Services Department based in Southampton, UK. The role includes tasks in relation to Survey report vetting and conducting technical reviews for Special survey reports of ESP (Enhance Survey Programme) ships in accordance to the ESP code, LR (Lloyd’s Register) Rules & IACS procedures in preparation of Condition evaluation reports.

You will:
 

  • Conduct the technical review of special survey reports for service delivery in ESP section in accordance to the ESP code, LR Rules, LR procedures & IACS procedures within the time frame agreed.
  • Produce Condition evaluation reports for ESP Ships in defined format, within the time agreed and expected quality. To prioritize the urgent cases to meet Client expectations.
  • Perform agreed tasks related to Survey report vetting which will include Asset model updating, routine report vetting.
  • Discuss issues which arise in the technical review of survey reports with attending Surveyor, technical Supervisors and team members by suggesting appropriate solutions.
  • Support other activities, including data gathering and analysis, as required by management
  • Conduct activities in line with LR internal procedures and maintain quality output to expected level.
  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness.
  • Undertake routine administrative work as required in line with current processes and procedures.

Skills
  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organization recognized by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years Programme) or Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship’s officer.
  • Working towards or achieving chartered or incorporated engineering status.
  • At least three years’ relevant experience in either a shipyard or ship repair environment or as serving ship’s officer.
  • Experience working in accordance with professional codes of conduct.
  • To use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work in a matrix organization and across teams.
  • Attention to detail, working towards set timelines and the ability to priorities under pressure.
  • To be literate in MS365 and have the ability to quickly learn proprietary applications.
  • Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the work.
